QUINTESSENTIALLY WINE

2007 Barolo Futures

Elio Altare

Elio Altare is somewhat of a legend within Piemont due to his work in mentoring the next generation. Many of the rising stars of this region are his protégés and he is still making brilliant Barolos year after year.

Elio Altare, Barolo

USD 480.00 per case 6 bottles Under Bond ex UK cellars

Plummy and fruity with a lovely flowery aroma. Full and soft with round tannins. Long finish. Bright acidity with orange peel undertones. Why wait?

Elio Altare, Vigna Bricco Cerretta Barolo (2005 vintage)

USD 850.00 per case 6 bottles Under Bond ex UK cellars

The 2005 Barolo Cerretta is a new Barolo from a rented parcel in Serralunga that was vinified, aged and bottled separately for the first time in 2005. Altare is so profoundly associated with La Morra that it is fascinating to taste his first foray into Serralunga. The 2005 Barolo Cerretta positively covers every inch of the palate in a round, opulent expression of fruit. Still rather fresh and primary, the wine will require some time to come around. Menthol, liquorice, minerals and tar inform the long, harmonious finish.

Giovanni and Renato Corino

In 2006 the great Corino estate split and the two brothers divided their father’s winery between them after having worked together for 20 years. Today, their friendly rivalry has ensured that both are producing some truly scintillating Barolos.

Giovanni Corino Barolo

USD 432.00 per case 12 bottles Under Bond ex UK cellars

Lots of flowers and dark fruits on the nose, with hints of wet earth. Full bodied, with bright fruit and silky tannins. Vivid acidity and ultra-clean fruit character gives a wonderful young wine. So fab to taste now but give it two or three years to come even more together.

Giovanni Corino Barolo Vigna Giachini

USD 648.00 per case 12 bottles Under Bond ex UK cellars

Another extraordinary young Barolo with aromas that pop out of the glass. Dark berries, with white truffles and spices. Full body, with ultra-fine tannins and beautiful fruit. Goes on for minutes. Very balanced and refined. Try in 2014.
